Ganesh Temple

The Kataragama Gana Devi Temple, known as Manikya Pilleyar Temple, is situated to the left of the main temple. Popular belief is that Lord Gana, who is known as the elder brother of God Kataragama, is the lord of wisdom. This Gana temple that we see in Varmana is made of black stone and it was built in the year 1636 with the patronage of King Rajasingha II. The administrative work here is done from Tevani Amma temple and several customs of Kataragama Esala festival are related to this temple.
