Abhinavarama Temple

Another important Buddhist shrine located within the Kataragama shrine is the Abhinavarama temple. This temple was built around 1924 by Ratnayake Baris Appuhami Kapu of Thimbala and dedicated to His Eminence Kataragama Ayupala. Sugunatissa Nahimi of Kataragama, Vipulatissa Nahimi of Ranakeli, Prajnasara Nahimi of Ranakeli dominated this temple and worked to develop it. At present, the temple community, including this temple, is dominated by Ruhunu Magampattu's Chief Court Sanghanayake, Master His Highness Kapugama Saranatissa Nayaka.

It should also be remembered here about the village ritual held in this temple in conjunction with the Kataragama Esala festival since 1949. There are also many social care programs conducted by Vihasthanam.
